Anne Fausto-Sterling: “Gender, Sexuality, and the Problem of Memory” – April 13, 2010

Fausto-Sterling will present her explorations of scholarly attempts to explain variations in human gender expression and sexual desire. She will look at social scientific approaches that regard memory as a form of statistically analyzable data, contrasting such approaches with contemporary neurobiological understandings of how memory works. Fausto-Sterling will demonstrate that neurobiology may have more in common with psychoanalysis in its approach to memory, gender and sexuality than it does with sociology and other social sciences.
